One World Montessori School
April 1999 Primary Newsletter
Open Enrollment: Open enrollment begins on April lst. If you have neglected to turn in your fall application and deposit, your space becomes available to be filled by a new student. If you have forgotten to turn in your enrollment form, but would like a space, please contact Lisa or Pascale immediately. If you have made the decision for your child not to return to One World, please let your child's teacher know what your plans are. That way when discussion comes up, the staff can be positive, consistent and supportive about the parent's decision. We know these kind of changes can be traumatic and difficult. As always we will do our best to help the children make a successful transition.
Steven Fiske will perform on Friday 2nd at 10:00 am in Santa Clara and 12:30 pm in San Jose.
Easter Celebration: On Thursday, April lst, we will have our Easter celebration. Please see the sign-up sheet in each classroom for donations.
Spring Break: School will be closed the week of April 5th to 9th. There will be no school and no daycare.
Earth Day Celebration: In our acknowledgment of the necessity of our stewardship of the earth and living things, we celebrate Earth Day on Thursday, April 22nd. The children will be making drawings and writing stories prior to the celebration which will be displayed on that day. We will also sing songs and plant flowers.
We will be celebrating at the Dent site and the Cabrillo children will be returning to Santa Clara after lunch. We would like to have the Santa Clara parents drive their children to the Dent site in the morning if possible.
If you are able to help with carpooling children from Cabrillo to Dent and back to Cabrillo, please, see the sign-in sheet on your classroom door. Parents are welcome to come and participate in our Earth Day celebration.
Africa Immersion Day: Wednesday, April 28th is Africa Immersion Day. We will be studying the continent of Africa all month and will conclude on Wednesday when the Young Audiences of San Jose present "Family Affair".
This African-American ensemble expresses a message of peace, love and respect to the beat of tribal drums. Colorful costumes and African instruments make the performances appealing to the eyes as its musical message is to the ears and heart.
If you can contribute to our immersion day with food, artifacts, pictures, slides...., please contact your child's teachers.
Summer School: Primary offers different programs depending on the site. Santa Clara will offer two programs, the transition program for the very young or new children. It follows a usual half day Montessori program and offers nap after lunch for those students who need to stay longer. After 3:00 pm the transition students who need to stay for daycare will join the children in our regular summer program. The older students will attend the full sununer experience with the morning in the Montessori environment and field trips, swimming, Gymsters and Art and Craft in the afternoon. Dent will offer the full summer experience only.
Both programs are divided in two week sessions to allow for family vacations.
You will find the Summer School forms attached to this newsletter. We are currently staffing for 24 children at each site for the full summer experience and for 12 children for the Santa Clara transition program. Be sure to turn in your form as soon as possible, as space will be assigned on a first come first served basis.
Summer School slots are available for new and/or returning students. If these slots are not filled, non-returning children may be allowed to enroll after all new and returning students have received a space. Children who will be attending the Elementary Program in September will attend the Elementary Summer Program. When you return your forms, please enclose a deposit equivalent to one session fee. Any change or cancellation must be in writing and must be received by May 31st. After May 31st, you will be financially responsible for all sessions that you have signed up for.
Elementary Video: We have a video introducing the Elementary Montessori program. If you are interested in viewing it, please check with the office.
Last Two Weeks of June: Daycare is available for the last two weeks of June for Full Day students. This is part of their program. However, if we have space, we will accommodate school day and half day students for an additional charge. All parents who need the two weeks of daycare in June, need to sign up on the sheet on the bulletin board.
Thank yous: Thank you to all the parents who donated goodies for our spring show, thank you to Jon Crockett and Jean Marc Chevrot for helping with the Santa Clara office computer, to the Nagwani family for donating an Air Conditioning unit and a microwave oven, to Mrs. Hull (Valerie and Audriana's grandmother) for her help with last minutes errands, to Sigal Inbar for her help with the shows props and to Jean March Chevrot again for fixing Primary I's dishwashing table. Finally thank you for your understanding of the 'unplanned" fire drill prior to the performance.
